ADOS Testing for Adults in Florida: What to Expect

Author: Mokshvi Shah, BS Northeastern University Student

Published: September 2025The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) is considered the gold standard in assessing autism in both children and adults. For adults, ADOS testing can be especially helpful in understanding lifelong patterns, improving self-awareness, and accessing resources or accommodations.

Here’s what you can expect during the process:

  • Pre-Appointment Information: We begin by collecting your background history through intake paperwork and an initial conversation. This includes details about your development, social interactions, communication style, and any past evaluations or diagnoses.

  • The Testing Session: During the ADOS assessment, you’ll participate in a structured series of activities and conversations. These tasks are designed to evaluate social communication, interaction patterns, and related behaviors in a comfortable, supportive setting. It’s not a pass-or-fail test, our goal is to understand your strengths and areas where you might need support.

  • Feedback & Next Steps: Once testing is complete, your clinician will review your results, explain their meaning, and discuss recommendations. If you meet criteria for an autism diagnosis, we can guide you toward resources, therapy options, workplace accommodations, and community support.

Whether you’re seeking answers for the first time or looking for updated documentation, ADOS testing can be a powerful step toward understanding yourself better.
